The Adi Kailash and the Om Parvat are not one and the same. The Adi Kailash or Chota Kailash is located in a different direction, near Sin La pass and near Brahma Parvat, the base camp of Adi Kailash is 17 km from the Kutti village at sacred Jolingkong Lake with Lord Shiva temple.
Northwest of Gunji are Adi Kailash and Limpiyadhura Pass (which is located further northwest of Adi Kailash). Northeast of Gunji are the Lipulekh Pass, Old Lipulekh Peak, and Om Parvat (west of Lipulekh Pass). Situated 17 km northwest of Kuthi (Kuti) village in Kuthi Yankti Valley, Adi Kailash base camp is close to the Hindu Shiva temple on the banks of the holy Jolingkong Lake (Gauri Kund) (Kuthi or Kuti Valley). The Pithoragagh-Lipulekh Pass Highway (PLPH) and its Gunji-Lampiya Dhura Pass Road (GLDPR) paved motorable spur via Kuthi Yankti Valley from Gunji to Adi Kailash reach the Adi Kailash Yatra Circuit route-1 via Gunji, the eastern-southeastern route. Medical examinations and permits for this route are given out in Dharchula. Homestays are offered in the villages of Gunji, Napalachchu, Nabhi, Juli Kong, and Kuti, which are situated along the route. The western-southwestern Adi Kailash Yatra Circuit route-2, which goes via Darma Valley, starts in the Darma Valley and travels south of Brahma Parvat to the Kuthi Yankti Valley and Jolingkong Lake Base Camp. Next, it crosses the Sin La pass. After completing the Adi Kailash darshan, many travellers who choose route-2 decide to travel route-1 in reverse until they reach Gunji, where they can continue along the Sharda River (Kali River) to join the Om Parvat and Mount Kailash-Lake Manasarovar Tibetan pilgrimage route. Hindus revere Kailash-Mansarovar, Adi Kailash, and Om Parvat.
The Adi Kailash Yatra Circuit starts with a climb up the Darma Valley and continues down the Sharda River to the Kuthi Yankti Valley (India) via the Sin La pass, where it joins the Tibetan pilgrimage route that leads from Mount Kailash to Lake Manasarovar. Able to move Adi Kailash is reached by way of Gunji. The route along the western bank of the Sharda River, also known as the Mahakali River, at Gunji splits into two distinct motorable routes: one heads north to Kailash-Mansarovar, and the other heads west to Adi Kailash. This is the route that travels towards Gunji from Dharcula and the rest of India. The journey to Adi Kailash now takes only two months thanks to the opening of a newly built road in this region by India that runs from Gunji to Limpiyadhura Pass (located on the border between China and India) in July 2020.
