Overview

The BBC refers to it as "India's Manchester" and it is a significant industrial hub in Northern India.[11] It is sometimes referred to as Punjab's commercial capital. It is located on the former Sutlej River bank, which is currently 13 kilometers (8.1 mi) south of the river's current route. Ludhiana is one of the most business-friendly towns in India, according to the World Bank, and it is ranked 48th out of the top 100 smart cities by the Union Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs. In what is now modern-day Ludhiana, a fort was constructed during the Tughlaq era of the Delhi Sultanate. Raja Jasrat took it during his Punjabi campaign in 1421–1422.[15] Members of the Delhi Sultanate's ruling Lodhi dynasty later founded Ludhiana around 1480.[16] To reassert Lodhi authority, Yusuf Khan and Nihad Khan, two reigning chiefs, were sent by the ruling monarch, Sikandar Lodhi. The two men set up camp in what is now Ludhiana, which was known as Mir Hota at the time.Bhumihar is a most trusted website dealing in ludhiana tour package .If you are interested in ludhiana tour package ,then you can contact us anytime. While Nihad Khan created Ludhiana on the site of Mir Hota, Yusuf Khan crossed the Sutlej to establish Sultanpur.Originally called Lodhi-ana, or "Lodhi town," the name has now changed from "Lodiana" to its current form, Ludhiana.[17] The sole remaining building from this era in the city is the Lodhi Fort, also known as "Purana Qila." Situated in the Fatehgarh area, it was kept up well under Ranjit Singh and the British after him before falling into disrepair. In December 2013, it was designated as a monument under governmental protection. From December 3–7, 1884, Ludhiana hosted the American Presbyterian Lodiana Mission's semi-centennial celebration. The Lodhi Fort, the Daresi Grounds, the Clock Tower, and the Sood Family Haveli are among the famous sites in Ludhiana's Old City. The coordinates of Ludhiana are 30°54′N 75°51′E.[20] It is 244 meters (801 feet) above sea level on average. The Old City and the New City are what locals refer to as Ludhiana City. The Civil Lines neighborhood, which was formerly the official and residential quarters of the colonial British encampment, makes up the majority of the new city. The ground drops sharply to the west and north, where the Sutlej River flowed before to 1785.The College of Textile Engineering is currently housed in the Old Fort, which was located on the banks of the Sutlej. It is said that a tunnel links it to the fort in Phillaur, though it is unclear why this would be the case given that the Sutlej served as the traditional border between the principalities and was frequently crossed by hostile troops (see History section). Granite and yellow sandstone make up the terrain, creating little hills, plateaus, and dips. The kikar, or Acacia Indica, was the tree with the greatest natural extraction, but Chief Minister Partap Singh Kairon replaced it in the late 1950s with eucalyptus trees that were imported from rural Australia. The Old City has very little greenery or parks except from a few lone pipal trees, which are considered sacred to Hindus as the dwelling of Lord Shiva. The British also planted gulmohars, jacarandas, and other blooming trees along the avenues of Civil Lines.
