In the Anantnag district of the Indian-administered union territory of Jammu and Kashmir, Pahalgam , also referred to as Pahalgom. literally, "village of shepherds" in Kashmiri), is a town and notified area committee that is located close to Anantnag city. It is a well-liked hill station and tourist attraction. Thousands of travellers come here every year from all over the world to enjoy its pristine waters and verdant meadows. At an elevation of 7,200 feet (2,200 metres), it is situated on the banks of the Lidder River 45 kilometres (28 miles) from Anantnag. One of the eleven tehsils in the district of Anantnag has its headquarters in Pahalgam.
Pahalgam is linked to the Amarnath Yatra, an annual pilgrimage to the shrine. Chandanwari is 16.9 miles (9.9 kilometres) from Pahalgam. Hundreds of thousands of tourists visit the town as the starting point of the annual yatra, which happens in the months of July and August. Seventy percent of visitors to the valley come to the town because of its religious significance and function as a base camp. Some of the town's infrastructure is overloaded by this influx of visitors, particularly waste management.
The state government and private hotels host championships on Pahalgam's picturesque 18-hole golf course during the summer. Winter weather forces the course to close. [Untrustworthy source?] The Pahalgam Golf Course, also called Ladder Valley Golf Course, is renowned for its distinctive features and is located at an elevation of roughly 2,400 metres above sea level, roughly 100 kilometres from Srinagar. Numerous natural water hazards exist on the course, one of which is a stream that flows through the centre of the system. It also provides breathtaking views of the surrounding mountains and the Lidder River, which is close by. This golf course is known locally as the 'plateau'. Some of the plateau was taken over by the military during the insurgency and was off-limits to visitors.
Pahalgam has a temperate climate with long and cold winter and short and mild summer Pahalgam is located at 34.01°N 75.19°E.[12] Pahalgam holds a central position in the Lidder Valley. It has an average elevation of 2,740 metres (8,990 ft).he name Pahalgam is derived from two Kashmiri words; Puheyl (shepherd) and goam (village) over the time became Puheylgoam or Pahalgam.[citation needed] The place acts as a gateway to many meadows and pastures and traditional Bakharwal communities settle there from spring season to pre-winter, herding their cattle.
